Cro-Magnon culture. Artwork of Cro-Magnon humans around a fire about 30,000 years ago during the Upper Palaeolithic. The old man (right) is based on the original French (Dordogne) Cro-Magnon fossil discovered in 1868, others on the more rugged East European skeletons. These are the best-known examples from Europe of anatomically modern humans (Homo sapiens). Artwork by Maurice Wilson.
