The use of gas in Laconia for heatingand cooking purposes is comparatively anew idea, but for both these purposesthere is a constantly increasing demandfor gas ; and these features of the com-panys business are proving very popu-lar, both on the ground of convenienceand cheapness. There are now in usein this city over one hundred and fiftytwo-oven four-burner gas ranges, besidesmany smaller gas stoves, both for cook-ing and heating. About twelve miles of streetmains have been laid up to the presenttime, covering almost the entire city;but extensions are constantly beingmade in every direction, both at Laco-nia and Lakeport, to reach new con- tendent, J.
