The town of Varoshia, in Famagusta district in Cyprus. In the early seventies, it was the most important tourist resort in Cyprus and one of the most popular tourist destinations worldwide, with many modern hotels and buildings. It was famous for its sandy beaches. Today, the «ghost» town of Varoshia, is under the control of the Turkish army. The town is held in captivity, empty, without inhabitants, fenced off since the Turkish invasion of August 1974.
