Bust of Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676), Bust of Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676), Bust of Michiel Adriaansz. de Ruyter of black English earthenware, so-called Black Basalt. The bust has a square pedestal of black marble with an ormolu plinth and ditto top. On the front of the base is a cast, ormolu plaque, surmounted by the helmeted coat of arms of De Ruyter. The text on the plaque reads: Michel Adriantsz De Ruijter Chevalier Admiral Général de l'Armée Navale des Provinces Unies &C. On the reverse of the bust blind embossed: DE RUYTER and the mark: Wedgwood., maker: anonymous, England, c. 1780
