CityTree installation in London, April 2018. The CityTree is a new technology designed to reduce air pollution. It uses a combination of mosses and other plants to absorb pollution and clean the air, reducing particulate matter by up to 30 percent. It is self-powered by solar panels, with rainwater captured using a built-in irrigation system. One installation has the air-cleaning capacity of 275 trees, taking up 1 percent of the space. Developed by Green City Solutions and supplied by Evergen Systems, this trial installation was launched by The Crown Estate and Westminster City Council on 16 March 2018. Photographed on Glasshouse Street, near Piccadilly Circus, on 5 April 2018.
