This coal is shipped fromInternational Pier, Sydney, and from Louisburg by a railroadfirst-class in construction and equipment, extending forty milesfrom Sydney to Louisburg, and owned and operated by theDominion Coal Company. The cost of iron production at the Sydneys is so much lessthan its cost at other important centres, as to give themmarked advantage. It is estimated to be $ per ton, or$ less than in England, $ less than in Germany, and$ less than in Pittsburg. The plant of the Dominion Iron & Steel Company atSydney, as shown in the accompanying illustration, has acapacity of 1,000 tons pig iron per day, with steel works forconverting this product into steel by the open hearth coke ovens number 400. Nature defines human opportunity. The designation ofSydney by the Dominion Iron & Steel Company as the site ofits vast works, is in line with that destiny which, at the incep-tion of an enterprise determines the success of its iss
