Blue sky portrait white water ornamental fountain and people walking, through glass doors DZ Bank, Pariser Platz, Berlin

The DZ Bank building in Pariser Platz was built between 1995 and 2001. Pariser Platz, itself, is a public square, in front of the Brandenburg Gate, at the end of the Unter den Linden Boulevard, in Central Berlin. The square is named after the French capital and commemorates the entry of Paris by the Allies (Prussia, Russia and Great Britain) in 1814 and the overthrow of Napoleon. During World War 2 the buildings round and about were reduced to rubble by Allied air raids and artillery bombardment, the only structure left standing being the heavily damaged Brandenburg Gate. The square was re-designed in 1880, two ornamental fountains being added as highlight features in the green lawn areas either side of the square. These were restored in 1992, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Pariser Platz being part of the border strip 1961-1989.
