He made original re-searches in and wrote and lectured on palaeontology andarchaeology; was also noted as a patriotic lecturer, and onmany occasions lectured before schools and various otherorganizations. He was also the editor of The HENKELMemorial. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Histor-ical Society and of the Pennsylvania German Society. He had at home one of the most valuable historical libra-ries in this country. Men from various parts of thecountry have visited this library, and pronounced it one ofthe best that has ever been collected. On glancing over thebooks it will be seen that many publications back to Ucan be found, and there are hundreds of books of great value. Dr. Stapleton departed this life suddenly at his home, 1 \Erie Avenue, Williamspoit, Penna., on Monday, S< pteiul 1.
