Hiker and melting ice, Switzerland. This is firn ice, a type of ice left over from previous years that has reformed into a denser form at a stage between snow and glacial ice. Streams of meltwater at lower right and upper right carry away the water formed as the ice melts in the summer weather. This firn ice formed on a debris field on the shores of Lago del Zott. Photographed near Robiei, Val Bavona, in the Basodino mountain range, Maggia Valley, Ticino, Switzerland.
