The Druce case will long remain in thepublic mind as one of the most remarkableinheritance cases since the great Tichbornetrial. The object of the claimants was toprove that the fifth Duke of Portland was oneand the same as Druce. The incident heredepicted is the cross-examination of RobertCaldwell, one of the most important of theclaimants witnesses. It was alleged thatT. C. Druce had not been buried in the Drucegrave and that the cof&n had been weightedwith lead. After dragging on for years, the case wassettled once for all by the opening of thegrave and the examination of the remains inihe coffin.
