The Beehive, New Zealand Parliament, with the Environment department building and Wellington bus station in the foreground.

The Beehive taken from the walkway to the Westpac stadium, with the department for Environment and bus station in foreground. The majority of the trolley buses are powered by overhead electric cables. The beehive is New Zealand's seat of power, home to the prime ministers and cabinet offices, it sits at the heart of Wellingtons business district. Home to Labour and the currently ruling National Party (also Green and Maori Parties). The Beehive was built between 1969 and 1979. The original design was sketched out by Sir Basil Spence in a restaurant in 1964 whilst dinning with Sir Keith Holyoake; the final plans and construction were overseen by Gibson O'Conner.
