Ai almost every fort you will find the neat log-houses and church of the Roman Catholic Mission; and the priests themselves are all highly edu- cated men, while the most of th>.m are of good French or French-Canadian families. Their in- fluence with the Indians is immense. During the last rebellion the Canadian Government owed much to the missionaries' power of restiaining incipient revolt, and every Hudson's Bay Company's officer we met was loua and unqualified in their praise.
