NOVELTIES AND SPECIALTIES IN VEGETABLE SEEDS FOR 1897. Our list of Novelties includes varieties of Vegetable and Flower Seeds of recent introduction, pro- duced by growers and specialists in this country and abroad, and the descriptions given are mainly as received from the introducers. All are carefully tested in our trial grounds during the summer, and such as show an improvement on existing sorts are added to the general list. LIMA WAX BEAN. Named Lima Wax, as it has bright, glossy foliage and the bloom resembles the Dwarf Lima. The pods are very broad and flat and of excellent quality. ' The plant is branching and vigorous, with an immense amount of foliage, pods are borne in the greatest profu- sion, often a single plant having from 50 or 60 or more pods. They require thin planting (two beans being sufficient for a hill) on very rich soil, and will run true and not sport. The pods are the broadest of all Wax Bush Beans, color transparent glossy lemon wax, having the yellow waxy appearance very soon after the pods are formed. When picked will retain their bright, attractive appear- ance for a long time and do not be- come tough. Quality very tender, juicy, and flavor delicate. Being white seeded, retaining its rich color, and delicious flavor, when canned, it will be most desirable for canners' use. Pint 40 cts.; qt. 75 TRIUMPH OF THE FRAMES. (New Dwarf Forcing Bean.) This excellent variety was among our trials during the summer of 1896, when it proved its wonderful productiveness and quality as a forcing bean to be among the first. Produces a long slender pod of a dark green color in profusion ; they -can be picked quickly, as they grow in an almost solid mass beneath the foliage, very early and extremely tender, being very dwarf', it can be sown in hotbeds for forcing
