When constructed from black iron, the short stub is SHEET METAL WORK AND PATTERN DRAFTING 267 slipped over the flange and one or two rivets placed oneach side at point b in the elevation. The flange is thenclosed tightly against the pipe on the inside by means ofthe hammer, making a tight, rigid joint between the twopipes.
