Piddlehinton is a village in west Dorset, England situated in the Piddle valley five miles north of Dorchester. The village has a population of around 600 (As of 2007[update]). Piddlehinton formerly constituted a liberty containing only the parish itself. At one time, the village was called Honeypuddle, and was owned by a Master Moore. The local schools are Piddle Valley First School, St Mary's Middle School in Puddletown, and The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester. The village has no shop or post office but does have two public houses – The Thimble and The European, The nearest shop is in Piddletrenthide where locally grown fruit and vegetables, among other miscellaneous items, including the Mangelwurzel are sold. St Mary's Piddlehinton is the local church. A microbrewery – the Dorset Piddle Brewery – was established in Piddlehinton in 2008 and produces 300 gallons of ale every week Sturminster Newton, known to locals as Stur, is a town in the Blackmore Vale area of Dorset, England. The town is famous as the home of poet and author William Barnes, and, for part of his life, Thomas Hardy Traffic signs or road signs are signs erected at the side of roads to provide information to road users
