Their fam-ily numbers ten children, of whom Robert isthe fourth in order of birth. It was in Allegan county, on the 27th ofApril. 1862. that Robert Bartz was born. Hewas there reared, spending his youth in theusual manner of fanning lads of the worked in the fields during the summermonths and in the winter seasons attendedschool, thus acquiring a good education inorder to assist him in his farm work. Her father died in Crawfordcounty, Ohio, October 20, 1901, but hermother is still living in Mayfield Bartz is the fifth of their family ofeight children, and by her marriage she hasbecome the mother of three interesting lit-tle daughters—Josephine, Marguerite andClara.
