The cornerstone of the new churchbeing erected by the Salem Methodistcongregation, at the corner of Greenand West streets, was laid Sunday af-ternoon, June 19, with appropriate andimpressive exercises. A large assem-ply of people gathered on the churchand parsonage lots to witness theceremony. Rev. A. C. Swafford, thepastor, presided and introduced pas-tors and laymen of other churches,who made short addresses. The Burk-head church band played several se-lections during the service. The Fishelquartette sang a selection at the closeof the service. Miss Rosa Petree, thechurch pianist, presided at the piano. The firs
