RETINAL DETACHMENT, SURGERY
Detached retina due to large tear. This injury occurs most frequently on the edge of the retina, weakened by a pre-existing condition such as shrinkage or poor vascularization. Reattachment begins with injecting a product that replaces the vitreous humour into the eye. The retina is thus held against the sclera, allowing the surgeon to seal the break by laser or cryotherapy. The substitution product (DK Line) is then replaced by silicone oil, which will remain in the patient's eye for several weeks (removing the silicone is a minor procedure). Here, attaching retina to choroid by laser-assisted photocoagulation.
