The of the old JIarks residence is nowoccupied liy the Pioneer Flats. Elias Axe, mentioned above, was born in Berkely county, Virginia,Pebruaiy 14, 1819. After the de;!th of his father, his mother removedto Wayne county, Ohio, and in 1836 Elias came to Porter county, Indi-ana. In 1344 I\Ir Axe was elected county treasurer. He was one of thecharter members of the Christian clmrch and was active in promotingthe general welfare of the eoramiiinty
