OCHAMCHIRE TO ZUGDIDI, GEORGIA, 30TH SEPT 1993: A Georgian in his overloaded car waits as three lanes of traffic all going south to Zugdidi block the road. Tens of thousands of Georgians from Ochamchire and Gali are flee before advancing Abkhazian forces. By the time the Abkhazians arrived at the Zugdidi bridge at around 9pm that night, marking their arrival with a barrage of artillary fire and cutting power to Zugdidi, many refugees had not yet crossed. Unsubstantiated reports said that many of those left behind were killed.
