An 1839 depiction of the mythological figure CUPID (Cupīdō) who sometime appears in plural form as the Amores/ amorini / amorini) / amoretto / amoretti who are all personifications of love , passion and , originally, of lust. The figure is common in many Western cultures as the equivalent of the Greek Erotes. In the 15th century, the iconography of Cupid started to become hardly indistinguishable from the winged putto /putti (cherubs) meaning (among other things - depending on the language) boy-child, winged angel and male toddler.
