Shoppers and visitors in busy Low Petergate leading into Shambles in the old historical quarter of the city of York in Yorkshire, Britain. A street name with the ending of Gate, is a Viking word for ‘street’. In AD 866, the invading Danish Vikings made York their capital city - Jorvik. At the end of the street are the twin towers of York Minster.
