Gill-rakers rather long, 9 to 12 on lower part of anterior arch. Dorsal XVIII-XIX 9-10; spines increasing in length to the last, which measures nearly ^ length of head ; longest soft ray |- to f length of head. Anal VII-VIII 7-8 ; last spine nearly as long as last dorsal. Pectoral about § length of head. Ventral more or less produced, reaching origin of anal or beyond. Caudal rounded. Caudal peduncle li to 1^ times as long as deep. Scales 38-44 j^^; lateral lines.
