Poor Apolo, who had received a present of anEnglish Bible from one of the ladies, felt that hetoo would like to be amongst the rest, and joined theclass ; but after struggling on for some weeks, withhis very slow ear which produced such quaint vari-ations even in some of the hymn tunes, he gave it upin despair. He now contents himself with a repu-tation for literary taste, with which the possession ofthe English Bible invests him. There is another English Bible in Toro of whichthe owner is also very proud, and that is the veryhandsome one, in four volumes in a leather case, sentout by the British and Foreign Bible Society to theKing in recognition
