Henoch-Schonlein purpura (anaphylactoid purpura) spots on a 10 year old boy's skin. Henoch-Schonlein purpura causes the inflammation of small blood vessels, which leak blood into the skin, joints, kidneys and intestines. It is most common among young boys, although its precise cause is unknown. Along with the skin rash, Henoch-Schonlein purpura may also cause joint stiffness and blood in the urine and faeces. Most symptoms disappear within a month, but sometimes corticosteroid drugs are required.
