The winch has two drumsworked independently by means of a clutch on the handleshaft. The rope for raising the tower passes from thewinch over the pulley on top of the crane post, and isfastened to the top of the ladder; the platform rope passesover a guide pulley, up the back of the ladder and over apulley at the top, thence down to ihe platform. The new power house for the Lexington avenue cableline of the Metropolitan Traction Company in New YorkCity is located between Fourth and Lexington avenues andextends through the block between 25th and 26th streets fora distance of 197^ feet. Its frontage on 25th street is 187feet and that on 26th street is 178 feet.
