This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Martian canyons. Mars Express view of canyons and impact craters on Mars. The canyons (left) are the western ends of Tithonium Chasma and Ius Chasma, part of the Valles Marineris canyon system on the Martian equator. The canyons seen here are up to kilometres deep. The impact craters (right) were formed by asteroids impacting the Martian surface. North is at left. The area shown is many hundreds of kilometres across. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003.
