I was asked to give a lecture in a large city in theWest of England. The lecture was to be one of a series of edu-cational lectures given through the winter by the city museumauthorities, and were of a popular scientific character. Thechoice of a subject was left with myself. With some trepidation I asked the curator of the museum ifa lantern would be forthcoming if I decided on illustrating itwith lantern slides, and he good naturedly undertook to pro-vide one.
