Caption: Pelling, Sikkim, India - Sep 1999. Mount Kanchendzong as seen from Pelling in Western Sikkim. The third highest mountain in the world, Kanchendzong lies in the Indian Himalayas and the former Tibetan Kingdom of Sikkim. Known as a gardien deity, Kanchendzong has never been climbed, staying true to the wishes of the Sikkimese people. Lepcha (the ethnic inhabitants of Sikkim) legend professes that the first man and woman were created from the spirit of Kanchendzonga; now known to bestow benign peace and prosperity over the kingdom.
