Upon hearing the enginesquit as the plane passed overhead, W5YYM contactedW5TFY in Austin and set the Austin Emergency Net inoperation on Mc. A few phone calls indicated theauthorities knew the plane was do\\Ti, but had no ideawhere. W5YYM soon located the airplane on a ranch about May 1955. a mile from the nearest road. Doctors and ambulanceswere ordered and the CAA, Texas Department of PublicSafety and Sheriffs department were notified. MobilesW5s KNM PRO QZJ left immediately for Lake Travisto aid in the search for a crew member who bailed out andwas mi-ssing. For the first 30 minutes YYM/m was thesole means of commvmications between the scene of thecrasli and the state police and other authorities.
