Derbyshire sculptor Anthony Stones created this sculpture which was unveiled in December 1995. It signifies Bonnie Prince Charlie’s return to Scotland in 1745 after failing to overthrow the king, George II. He arrived in Derby on 4th December en route to London. It was here whilst discussing tactics, that he realised that he had insufficient troops to carry out the task, so decided to retreat.
