Formerly a somewhat shorterstick was used but it has been found that the use of thelonger stick results in more uniform wear, that underthe leg being now not noticeably greater than in themiddle of the span. The sister hook is of malleableiron, with the top arranged for hooking over the spanwire and with a square eye below through which themaple stick slips loosely.
