The style of architecture shows that the chapel wasbuilt early in the twelfth century, not very long after Lanfrancs foundationat Canterbury. The doorway has a beautiful Norman arch of manyorders of moulding supported by capitals ornamented with mosaic pattern,Romanesque foliage, and nailhead designs, and by shafts with zig-zag and1 Trans., xx., pp. 127-137. Theoriginal Norman windows have been removed and replaced by others of amuch later date.
