The Indian subcontinent, imaged in visible light by a Tiros-N satellite. The satellite used its Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) to record this view on 10 April 1989. At the far left are the striated mountain regions of Pakistan, with the rust-brown Indus Valley. To the north of India (centre) is the snow-covered Himalayan Mountain range, containing the countries of Nepal and Bhutan. At the far right may be seen the River Ganges and its delta in Bangladesh. In the Indian Ocean next to the mainland is the large island of Sri Lanka, whilst at the right edge the Andaman Islands may be seen.
