The BufFum pear has been variously estimated bydifferent cultivators; some considering it nearly equal toa fine Doyenne, while others place it among those of me-dium quality. Two years since, at the meeting of thePomological Congress in New York, the merits of theBuffum were pretty fully discussed, the question beingupon adding it to the list of kinds worthy of general culti-vation. The result of the discussion was, that it wasplaced upon the list by a large majority. The Buffum, without being ranked among the finestpears, possesses abundant merits, which entitle it to aplace in the collection of every cultivator. The tree is of remarkablyvigorous growth, as erect and straight as a poplar, forming a perfectpyramid, even without the aid of the pruning knife. It is an immensebearer; and the fruit, which hangs in clusters from every branch, is fairand beautiful, with a golden yellow skin, often russeted and de
