HADSELL. 321. 322 DETERMINATIONS BY ACTUAL SURVEYS. 323 maximum surface velocity, determined fromcurve, Plate B-17, and shown on Plate B-19. The increase in the hydraulic radius with theincrease in gage height was also used as a guidein developing the curve showing the relation be-tween maximum surface velocity and probablemean stream velocity. The product of the mean stream velocity, thusfound for each gage height, applied to the areaof the channel at that height, gave the discharges were plotted for each foot onthe gage, as abscissae, while the gage heightswere plotted as ordinates and the points wereconnected by a curve, which was adopted as thedischarge curve for Calaveras Creek to be ap-plied to the Hadsell measurments. This is shownon Plate B-20. Cross-Sections Determinedby Actual Surveys. In October, 1889, a survey of the section iisedby Mr. Hadsell, and computations of area forvarious depths of the same, were made by Schussler (see Plate B-20). This sec-lion was us
