Racing Of the two-year-olds that had been sent up fromSandringham the previous year, Orellius had developedinto a good-looking colt, about whom there were possi-bilities. Most of the other two-year-olds were half-dozen leased colts promised little ; indeedthose that had been freely entered were struck outof most of the chief stakes. Vain Air, one ofthe little ones, however, was ready early in theseason, was sent to Liverpool, and carried oiF theMolyneux Stakes, which was something to beginwith ; and at Derby a week afterwards she won theSudbury Plate, which was something more, thoughthere was comparatively little satisfaction in picking upthese trifling events with a filly who, in consequenceof her lack of size, was not likely to improve. TheNewbury Meeting, however, came on at the end ofMarch, and Minoru, who had been doing well duringthe winter, was sent to run for the Greenham to the conditions of the race he had 9 lb. to carry.
