Prather of this review wasthe eldest and in the county of his nativityhe was reared, pursuing a common-schooleducation, although his advantages in thatdirection were somewhat limited, for hisservices were needed to carry on the workof the home farm. In July, 1862, he offeredhis aid to the government for a one hundreddays service, and joined Company A of theSeventy-first Illinois Infantry, with whichhe went south to Cairo and joined the West-ern army.
