Withsome large headed tacks fastened an ordinary safety razorblade to one end of the wood so that as it lay upon the shelfthe sharp edge of the blade was up some ^ of an inch abovethe wood; then I marked off 12 inches and 15 inches from theedge of the blade upon the stick, and the device was completealmost in less time than it takes to tell how it was done(Figure i).
