SURIGAO STRAIT (July 3, 2017) Navy Sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), participate in a flight deck 5K run in commemoration of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, July 3, 2017, in the Surigao Strait. The Battle of Leyte Gulf raged from Oct. 23-26, 1944, pitting the Imperial Japanese Navy against the Allied forces from the United States and Australia and was the last great battleship engagement in history.
