French Marine Lt. Col. Rene Debuire explains the importance of the Battle of Bazeilles, a widely honored battle in France’s history, to Marines and Sailors assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Sailors with the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group during a commemoration ceremony, in the ward room of the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), at sea, Aug. 31, 2013. The 26th MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force currently assigned to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility aboard the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group serving as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious operations across the full range of military operations.
