A late 19th Century illustration of the Pont des Arts or Passerelle des Arts, a pedestrian bridge in Paris crossing the River Seine. It linked the Institut de France and the central square (cour carrée) of the Palais du Louvre. Between 1802 and 1804, under the government of Napoleon Bonaparte, the nine-arch metallic bridge for pedestrians was frequently damaged and reconstructed in 1984.
