There is great differ-ence in the susceptibility of different varieties of the rose, and selec-tion should lead to resistant strains in many cases. The crimsonrambler is notably sensitive. This mildew covers the leaves, especially the young leaves andthe vigorous and young shoots, injuring and often arching orcurling the leaves and deforming the more succulent oidial stage is produced in great profusion, and consequentlythe disease spreads rapidly. Perithecia are not always Fig. 89. Thorough dusting with flowers of sulfur every ten daysis often sufficient. Ammoniacal copper carbonate is also effective.
