Another condition which also bears the name of torti-collis is that of clonic unilateral spasm of one or moreof the muscles of the neck, usually the sterno-cleido-mastoid. It ranks properly among the neuroses, bearingan analogy, in its clinical symptoms at least, to histrionicspasm and writers cramp. It issupposed to be due to an irri-tation of the spinal accessorynerve ; in some cases this nervehas been found to be hyper-trophied. It is a disease moreespecially of adult life, thoughit has been observed tooccur in infants duringdentition, and in olderchildren as a sequela orlingering symptom ofchorea. The head isdra
