Form galleries off the egg-tunnel. Fupce.—Formed in enlarged end of larval galleries; adults appear through holes cut in the bark above the pupal cells; duration 4-6 days. Shot-hole Borer (Anisandrus pyri Peck).—This borer cuts round, black tunnels deep into the wood; in small branches or stems one divi- sion of the tunnels partially girdles the wood (Fig. 222). Adult.—Cylindrical, black, J^ inch long; antennal club globular.
