MARTi: Oliver M. ?\lartin, engaged in the undertakingbusiness in .n Arbor, and a director of theFarmers and Mechanics Bank, was born in thecity of his residence, November 7, 1847. His fa-tlur. He es-tablished his home in Ann Arbor, accompanied byhis wife and one child. He was married in NewJersey to Miss Phoebe Hawkins, who was bornin the state of New York. Here ?\Ir. ^lartinturned his attention to cabinet-making, havingmastered the trade in New Jersey, and eventuallyhe engaged in the manufacture of furniture on hisown account. Later he established the under-taking business, becoming the pioneer in that linein Ann .\rbor, and after several years he with-drew entirely from furniture manufacturing inorder to give his undivided attention to the under-taking business, in which he continued success-fully up to the time of his death, which occurredwhen he was sixty-two years of age. His wifepassed away at the age of sixty-five years. Hispolitical allegiance was given to the republicanparty and for one term he served as city
