Plant root with ectomycorrhiza, light micrograph

Light micrograph of a washed spruce root with ectomycorrhiza. A mycorrhiza is a symbiotic association between a soil fungus and the roots of a plant. Both organisms benefit from this association. Ectomycorrhiza grow between the cells of the root cortex, but do not penetrate its tissues. Magnification: x10 when printed at 15cm wide.
