'Sir John Stainer', 1895. John Stainer (1840-1901), English composer and organist. He became a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral when aged ten and was appointed to the position of organist at St Michael's College, Tenbury at sixteen. He later became the organist at Magdalen College, Oxford, retiring from the position in 1888, becoming Heather Professor of Music at Oxford. From The Musical Educator, Volume IV by John Greig, , Mus.
