Woman in a red hat taking a photo of the Lower Garden at Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn, Gelderland, The Netherlands ( Het Loo means The Woods in English). This "Great Garden" is situated at the back of the palace. This Dutch Baroque garden, often mislabeled the "Versailles of Holland", actually serves to show more differences than similarities. It is still within the general Baroque formula: perfect symmetry, axial layout with radiating gravel walks, parterres with fountains, basins and statues. Het Loo Palace was a residence of the House of Orange-Nassau from the 17th century until the death of Queen Wilhelmina in 1962. The palace is a state monument & museum and is among the Top 100 Dutch UNESCO heritage sites.
