Syndyoceras, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal has distinctive forked nasal horns. It is an example of a protoceratid, an animal resembling but not related to deers. Syndyoceras lived from 25 to 20 million years ago, during the Miocene. It reached a body length of around metres. Its fossils have been found in North America.
